This program is composed of 6 regional centers that share intelligence and coordinate efforts against criminal networks that operate in many locations across jurisdictional lines. Typical targets of RISS activities are drug trafficking, violent crime, and gang activities.

The RISS Program is federally funded and run by the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. RISS serves more than 4900 member law enforcement agencies in 50 states, two Canadian provinces, the District of Columbia, Australia, and Guam.

RISS sevices available to its members:

1. Information Sharing and Communication Network
    Access to a large data base of information on Criminal suspects and
         activities.
    Secure Intranet service that allows member agencies to network
         electronically throughout the US.
   
   
2. Analysis of Multijurisdictional Crimes
    Sorting of complex case data and events.
    Conducts surveys to compile information and analysis of information
         on gangs, firearms trafficking, and criminal conspiracies.
   
   
3. Conferences and Training
    Regional and national.
    Many classes are held at all RISS facilities throughout the year.
   
   
4. Loan of sophisticated surveillance equipment to agencies that can't
   afford to purchase themselves or is otherwise unavailable.
   
   
5. Provide funds to buy evidence, information, or other investigative expenses to support multijurisdictional investigations.
